The Microsculpture of Johann Strauss
Microminiature
Imagine a microcosm, where every work of art fits on a millimetre hatch mark of a ruler. This micro-sculpture is only 2 millimetres high and about 1 millimetre wide. It is the outcome of my childhood dreams, born from a visit to the Microminiature Museum in Yerevan.
Inspired by the architecture of Vienna, I created a micro-statue of Johann Strauss out of one of my son's baby teeth. As a material, a baby tooth is incredibly brittle but hard.
That's why working with it required utmost concentration. I used tools that I have made myself and worked under a microscope, since the slightest vibration could disrupt the process.
Work took around two years, and more than once, I have doubted whether I would succeed. But I saw this project through to the end to demonstrate just how fragile our world and the art within it are. And now, I am proud to present this microscopic art to you.
